My friends are doing it, so why not conform? I will not promise the sort of blog dedication I seem to be seeing from them, however, so don't expect much. Just a way for me to "fit in." No, strike that - a way for me to organize some thoughts. (There, that sounds better...)

Oh, by the way...I just wanted to state that the opinions expressed in these posts are my own. Not my family's, not my friend's, not my workplace's, and certainly not yours. (Well, I should clarify that by saying any similarity to the opinions of the people or groups detailed above is purely coincidental.) Do ya' get it? Don't come down on anyone else for the things I say! (Sheesh!)

"Oh, the Humanity!"

Tonight's horse-racing event was a disaster! (See BoTI for previous mention of the Casino night event.)

The guy I carpooled with and I got there about 10 minutes early, decided to start filling the chip cups, and then the other 3 staff, (including pit boss), showed up to help.

For the most part, the event didn't start out too badly, but after people came up with their vouchers, got their chips, and placed their bets, that's when it all went to pot. That's the point at which we hit Play on the VCR and sat back, waiting for the "race" to begin. However, we were sans video. All we had was audio. Thus began an excruciating hour while the hotel A/V staff, (where the event took place), struggled helplessly to try and get us video. ("It was working before when we set it up.") The company that was there to partake in this event were all seated at their tables, talking amongst themselves and watching us, waiting, and, (in some cases), muttering at us under their breath. Well, all except the big heavy-set guy that was being quite vocal about it to the poor pit boss! It wasn't our fault that his company, in trying to save a few bucks, went with the A/V equipment from the hotel, even against the recommendation of the Casino event company's owner. She told him that if he didn't go with our A/V equipment, and accompanying A/V staff, that we couldn't support it.

In the end, not a single equine race was run, and all the company's people left the room to watch some of their management "race" in the hotel's halls. (Well, technically, given the fact that the family Equidae includes horses, zebras and asses, and given the fact that the loud-mouth, heavy-set guy from above was one of the participants in the hall race, perhaps... nah... I better not say.)

It was too bad too, because we were all looking forward to it. It started out like it was going to be a blast. We get paid regardless, but that's not really the point.

There were other details, but that's the gist of it.
